Abdool Kadir's appeal for Yemen

Yemen's humanitarian crisis is the 'worst nightmare than you can imagine' and getting worse by the day.

Yemen's humanitarian crisis is the 'worst nightmare than you can imagine' and getting worse by the day, says Families Relief founder, Abdool Kadir.

Abdool Kadir Gooljar – Families Relief - was featured in the last edition of the Changemakers magazine - read it here. Abdool is a member of IofC's Sheffield network.

The Families Relief team is tirelessly working on the ground, reports Abdool. He has sent pictures from Yemen, to testify to the horrors of this agonising, ongoing crisis and asks for your prayers, guidance and your help.

Thousands of families and children are suffering and have been forgotten where survival depends on such basics as food, water and medicine.

This is just one story. Amal died last week as she did not have the food, milk and medicines she desperately needed. But she is not the only one suffering as there are thousands of children in Yemen who will die if they cannot get the basics.

The crisis in Yemen, caused by prolonged conflict, has led to a disastrous impact on human life, basic public services and the economy. Families are struggling to survive, outbreaks of cholera and other infectious diseases are ongoing, but with the great number of health facilities damaged or unable to function correctly, so many people are dying.

Since last year, Families Relief has scaled up their work to provide emergency food assistance to people in the areas of Taiz and Hudaydah. But this year they aim to do even more. They need to ensure families have food, clean water and medicine - it is a matter of their survival, and it must be a top priority for all of us to save the lives of innocent children and families trapped by war.

The UN has reported that 22 million people within the country are in need of humanitarian assistance, but we expect this to rise as hospitals are still being bombed, children are still being attacked on their way to school, and the list goes on...

With the world's biggest cholera outbreak, the primary priority has to be to provide medicine and safe clean water to try and curb the rise in cases. Along with this, food supplies must be provided to aid the recovery of the sick.

Yemen, Hudaydah, October 2018 - Fetching scarce water

With around three million children born into the war - scarred by years of violence, displacement, disease, poverty, undernutrition and a lack of access to basic services - this is the only life they know. These are breaches of humanitarian law and we must not let the suffering of the Yemeni people be allowed to continue.

No one should have to go without safe, clean water. Thousands of people in Yemen are suffering and have been forgotten, and their survival is at risk.

Can you help? So that Families Relief can continue providing life-giving aid - clean water, medical aid and essential food supply solutions - to those who need it most in Yemen. Charity doesn't decrease wealth.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that more than three million Yemenis have fled their homes to elsewhere in the country, and 280,000 have sought asylum in other countries.
