Pauline Maclachlan-Strongman Mona Marzouk (excerpts) Pauline's life manifested the glory of God within her. She lived to enable others to grow and brought hope and healing to many. Her shining example is a constant inspiration and challenge to all of us. Pauline had many gifts and qualities from God. She was unparalleled in her unstinting enthusiasm. Where Pauline was involved, there were no half measures. She had a vibrant spirit, a cheerful smile and a great sense of humor. You couldn't be with her for long without seeing a sudden spark of mischief in her eyes, followed by her characteristically joyful and infectious laugh. She made lasting friendships wherever she went. She had friends in Pune, India, as well as in Germany and Switzerland, where she stayed and frequently visited.

She was a true friend who would drop everything when you needed her, who shared your ups and downs and gave you hope and strength. Pauline had a "big" heart that was open to all, a heart full of compassion especially for those who faced difficult situations and living conditions. This resulted in lasting friendships with people from Eastern Europe, through all the political changes. Her friendships with people from these countries were particularly facilitated by her fluency in French, German and Russian. In Britain, she offered support and friendship to those with local and national responsibilities in the areas of social and racial justice.

She loved music, had a lovely singing voice, and played the piano. And there certainly aren't many English girls who can say they were in a marching band at the dawn of the Swiss National Day! When she lived in Caux, she was a member of the Glion brass band, which was delighted to have her in its ranks! When she left, she was given the trumpet she had played on during the past years.

But despite all her travels, she never forgot her roots, her family and friends back home. So her return to the Liverpool area brought her great joy: - her marriage to Ian two years ago brought her great happiness in having a companion who shared her beliefs; - working with Ian for the "Industrial Pioneer", a newspaper that published stories of hope and creative teamwork in the field of industry;-the chance to take care of his mother who lived nearby and passed away only 18 months ago, not to mention living close to other family members. These are just a few of the things Pauline has been particularly grateful for in recent years. Her local commitments, however, never prevented her from continuing to care for her friends in other countries, and friends from all over the world, old and new, continued to come through the door of her hospitable home.
