Alan Thornhill - Oxford don, playwright and priest - introduces us to his friends and traces his own spiritual progress in their company. His friends include Malcolm and Kitty Muggeridge, Bishop Peter Ball, actress Muriel Smith, tennis star Bunny Austin and fiery conductor Artur Rodzinski. One chapter recalls a memorable evening with Charlie Chaplin - however, not all are famous!

Alan Thornhill’s bicycling gardener, his maiden aunts, his many friends in Moral Re-Armament and Barbara, his best friend and wife for forty years, show us more of Christ, who offers eternal friendship.

His plays have been seen on stage and screen on six continents. His first play, The Forgotten Factor, came to the West End in 1946 and was translated into sixteen languages. Other West End productions include Mr Wilberforce MP, Bishops Move, Ride! Ride! and most recently, Sentenced to Life.

Educated at Repton and Oxford, Alan Thornhill was ordained and served in a large London parish before returning to his Oxford College as Fellow and Chaplain. Now retired, he lives in Sussex.
