I don't know how this list ended up in Caux - where it has an honoured place. As someone who is passionate about history, not just the history of Caux, but also of World War 2 and the Shoah, I've searched archives in Montreux, Lausanne and Berne for traces of these people and this story, these stories. This list was clearly typed by the Swiss Army who were running the 'refugee camp' in Caux in 1944-45. But there is no trace of this list in Switzerland that I can find, and there's a mystery around what must be seen as the disappearance of the archives around this group. There's been an official inquiry that failed to find 'who disappeared what, when and why'.
I've had the very moving experience a number of times now of showing visitors, searchers, the name of their father/mother/relation. Including two old men born in Caux: their mothers were pregnant with them when they arrived, and they discovered their birth place. The Villa Maria, which was used as the infirmary for the refugees.
