Margo Stallybrass

Mother, home-maker, and lkeen amateur painter

Margo Stallybrass (née Bigland) trained as a children’s nurse. Her family lived in the same Cheshire, UK, village of Heswall as the Stallybrasses, and her MRA friends encouraged her to ‘date’ the rather wild young man of the Stallybrass family, Bill. A keen climber, his engagement present to her was a pair of hand-made climbing boots (now on display at Climbers Club hut in North Wales). When war broke out, they broke off their engagement, and only renewed their relationship at the war’s end. She was an original cook and hostess, welcoming to their home people from all over the world. She was a mother and a home-maker, and later in life, became a keen amateur painter. When she and Bill moved to a flat in Dulwich, she became friend and honorary grandmother to many of the young people in their street.
