Listening & Silence - A listening ear

Another great Swiss thinker and practitioner was Dr Paul Tournier (above), whose book 'A listening ear' (1984) examines ‘the power of listening and the power of silence’ (chapter 2) in detail. He writes:

‘There comes into one's mind the thought of some step to take, perhaps a letter to write. We have to realise that we always resist doing quite simple things that we know we ought to do. If we can manage to understand the reason for this resistance we are on the way to self-discovery. That's what makes meditation precious.’
