Listening & Silence - The sound of silence

My own booklet (which you can read or download here), 'The Sound of Silence', first published in 2004 and now in its eight printing, is an attempt to interpret silent reflection for today’s web-surfing generation. The subtitle is: ‘How to find inspiration in an age of information’. The booklet suggests that ‘In an age of inspiration, real inspiration comes in times of silent reflection’.

Like Buchman and others, the booklet advocates taking time for silent reflection first thing in the morning, as a means of ‘getting on top of the day before the day gets on top of you’. Musicians, after all, tune their instruments before the concert begins, rather than when the concert is over. The booklet also advocates writing down your thoughts so as not to forget them during the day or ignore uncomfortable home truths.
