This stirringly honest spiritual journey, the original French edition of which won a literary award from the prestigious Académie Française in Paris, has also been also translated into Russian and Greek.

Hélène Guisan-Démétriadès, along with her parents and siblings, were among those Greeks uprooted from Constantinople by the upheavals after the First World War. She remains deeply rooted in her Orthodox faith, although now living in her adopted country of Switzerland. A mother and home-maker, the book reveals the tensions between home and family, and her ambitions to write. We are drawn into her life-long journey with what she calls ‘a third presence’, experiencing the tragedies and joys, of a life richly lived.

Arriving in Switzerland at the age of six, Hélène Guisan later gained a degree in literature from the University of Lausanne. She married a lawyer from the Canton of Vaud, who became a senator in the Federal Parliament.
