James Hore-Ruthven

One of the leaders of MRA's work in the UK and across the world

James Hore-Ruthven came from an illustrious British family. His uncle, the 1st Earl of Gowrie, won the VC at the battle of Omdurman in Sudan in 1898 and became governor general of Australia.

James worked his whole adult life with MRA/IofC, befriending many in the political leadership of the UK and other countries. He served on the UK MRA board for 34 years, and also on the Caux Foundation and International Council.

He became known in International circles for his peacemaking work.

He married Dron Craig, the daughter of a Glasgow steel businessman and is survived by a daughter, Angela, a son, Sandy, and two grandchildren.
